Abstract:

Aim of this study was to investigate the use of modified and unmodified Sorghum hull in the removal of Ni2+ and Cu2+ from aqueous solution. The effect of pH, particle size and chemical modification were investigated and reported. pH significantly affected the adsorption with maximum adsorption at pH of 10. Adsorption increased as chemical modification by thiolation increased. The smaller particle size of 106µm mesh showed greater adsorption than particle size of 250µm mesh. These results will serve as parameters to consider in the design of treatment plants for heavy metal detoxification using biosorbents.
