vti_metatags:VR|HTTP-EQUIV=Content-Type text/html;\\ charset=iso-8859-1 citation_author E.\\ P.\\ Ogherowo citation_author Alade\\ Olusope\\ Michael citation_title Resistivity\\ Survey\\ for\\ Groundwater\\ in\\ Ezza\\ North\\ Using\\ Vertical\\ Electrial\\ Sounding citation_pdf_url http://www.sjpub.org/sjp/sjp-215.pdf citation_year 2013 citation_online_date 2013 citation_journal_title Science\\ Journal\\ of\\ Physics citation_abstract Vertical\\ electrical\\ resistivity\\ soundings\\ were\\ conducted\r\r\nin\\ order\\ to\\ delineate\\ the\\ groundwater\\ potentials\\ at\\ some\\ locations\r\r\nin\\ Ezza\\ North\\ Local\\ Government\\ of\\ Ebonyi\\ State.\\ Twelve\\ vertical\r\r\nelectrical\\ soundings\\ were\\ obtained\\ using\\ the\\ Schlumberger\r\r\nconfiguration\\ with\\ the\\ aid\\ of\\ the\\ OHMEGA\\ terramenter\r\r\n(SAS1000).The\\ field\\ data\\ were\\ subjected\\ to\\ interpretation\\ by\r\r\nemploying\\ the\\ method\\ of\\ manual\\ partial\\ curve\\ matching\\ techniques\r\r\nusing\\ the\\ master\\ curves\\ and\\ the\\ corresponding\\ auxiliary\\ curves.\\ A\r\r\ncomputer\\ programme\\ (RESOUND)\\ was\\ also\\ used\\ to\\ interpret\\ the\r\r\ndata.\\ The\\ parameters\\ obtained\\ were\\ used\\ to\\ determine\\ the\r\r\nresistivities\\ and\\ thicknesses\\ of\\ the\\ subsurface\\ layers.\\ The\\ major\r\r\nlithologic\\ units\\ of\\ the\\ area\\ are\\ shales,\\ sandstone\\ and\\ mudstone.\\ The\r\r\nwater\\ bearing\\ rocks\\ were\\ interpreted\\ to\\ exist\\ at\\ depths\\ between\r\r\n20m\\ and\\ 130m.\\ The\\ results\\ fairly\\ correlated\\ with\\ some\\ logged\r\r\nboreholes\\ close\\ to\\ the\\ survey\\ area.\\ The\\ aquifers\\ have\\ resistivities\r\r\nranging\\ between\\ 9Ωm\\ and\\ 110Ωm.\\ The\\ geophysical\\ search\\ for\r\r\ngroundwater\\ has\\ shown\\ that\\ the\\ survey\\ area\\ has\\ good\\ groundwater\r\r\npotentials\\ which\\ if\\ exploited\\ would\\ go\\ a\\ long\\ way\\ in\\ reducing\\ the\r\r\nproblems\\ of\\ seasonal\\ water\\ shortage\\ and\\ health\\ problems\\ associated\r\r\nwith\\ the\\ consumption\\ of\\ unhygienic\\ surface\\ water\\ in\\ the\\ area dc.rights http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ citation_volume 2013 citation_publisher Science\\ Journal\\ Publication citation_issn 2276-6367 citation_abstract_html_url http://www.sjpub.org/sjp/abstract/sjp-215.html
